The 2015 Honor Klopp Ranch marks the second year we have been able to work with this extraordinary site. Yields were down quite a bit from what we typically get which enhances grape quality. And the slightly cooler vintage provided an opportunity to create a wine of great finesse and profound complexity.
On the nose, lilacs, lavender and violets lead with cherries, cedar and a hint of smoke. Its palate is dense yet delicate with Cherries, Pomegranates, Cranberries and Raspberries unfolding slowly punctuated by notes of clove, violets and cedar. The finish is long with Klopp Ranch’s signature minerality supporting the complex layers of berries.
Klopp Ranch is one of the most spectacular sources for Pinot Noir in the Russian River appellation with only California’s most accomplished Pinot Noir masters sourcing the majority of the fruit which is grown each year. We use only the Pommard clone of Pinot Noir which has a thicker skin and is known for heightened aromatics. This gives our wine a bit more structure, weight and flavor density than the typical California Pinot Noir.
Enjoy this wine on its own or with any of your favorite grilled meats or hearty fish like salmon or Ahi tuna. We would recommend serving it slightly below room temperature for optimum enjoyment. For recipes and other serving ideas go to www.honorwinery.com.
